I'm using it in an automated animal feeder I use a barrel filled with deer corn. The automated feeder is attached to the bottom of the barrel There is a hole in the center bottom of the barrel which lines up with the hole in the feeder. The funnel is used to direct the corn to the center hole in the bottom of the barrel. Without the funnel the corn that was not in the center of the barrel where the hole is never made it to the feeder. When the barrel became empty there would still be a lot of corn in the bottom of the barrel away from the center hole The funnel forces all the corn to the center hole so ALL the corn is used up Without the funnel a lot of corn is wasted
