Getting Started with Distilling

The Turbo 500 (T500) Still is highly regarded for its ability to produce neutral spirits, making it a great choice for vodka and a solid starting point for gin. However, for whiskey production, you may want to explore additional components or alternative stills, as the T500 is not specifically designed to mimic the traditional pot stills often used in whiskey making.

Here’s a guide to help you get started with the T500 and ensure you have all the necessary parts:

  1. T500 Boiler:
This 25-liter electric boiler serves as the base of the system. It features a 1600W integrated element, boil dry reset, thermal cut-out fuse, and waste discharge tap.

  2. T500 Condenser:
The reflux condenser attaches to the boiler and is essential for the distillation process. It's available in both copper and stainless steel versions. The copper condenser enhances flavor and aroma by removing unwanted sulfur compounds.

  3. Copper Alembic Dome Top:
For crafting spirits like whiskey and gin, the Copper Alembic Dome Top can be used instead of the standard condenser. Its large copper surface area acts as a catalyst with the vapor in the still, enhancing and concentrating flavors and aromas.

  4. Copper Pot Still Condenser:
When paired with the Alembic Dome Top, this condenser is ideal for producing spirits with more flavor and character, such as whiskey and gin.

  5. T500 Lid with 48mm Hole:
A replacement lid designed to fit the T500 boiler, facilitating the attachment of different condensers.

  6. Water Flow Regulator:
Maintains a steady water flow during distillation, enhancing the quality and consistency of the finished product.

  7. Triple Distilled Pure Turbo Yeast:
Designed for high-quality alcohol production, this yeast is perfect for fermenting your wash.

By acquiring these components, you’ll have a comprehensive setup for distilling a variety of spirits. Ensure you follow all legal regulations and guidelines related to distillation in your area.
